Notice of Intention to Marry

This form needs to be signed in the presence of the celebrant at least 1 month prior and no longer then 18 months before your ceremony. Under special circumstances a shorting of time may be granted

DONLIM

Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marry form

To be used by marrying couples and approved Marriage Celebrants.
Under section 50(3) of the Marriage Act 1961, this form shall be printed on the reverse of one of the official Certificates of Marriage.

Evidence

Before you can be legally married in Australia, you will need to show: evidence of your date and place of birth (birth certificate or passport); proof of identity (driver's licence or passport); and in the case of a previous marriage, evidence that this has legally ended.

Visa

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate Visa’s in place before you get married

“I am duly authorised by law to solemnise marriages according to law.

Before you are married in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.

Marriage, according to the law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.”

Vows x 2

“I call upon the persons here present, to witness that I 

(FULL LEGAL NAME OF PARTY 1)

take you (FULL LEGAL NAME OF PARTY 2)

to be my lawful wedded wife (OR husband / wife / spouse / partner in marriage.)”

 Vows Part B

You may add special words before or after the legal vows, you just cannot alter or exchange the vows above according to the

Marriage Act 1961.

Part B example: Rachel, you complete me in every way. You are the reason I push myself to be better…Legal Vow. I Call upon the persons here present . . .After vow. I promise to listen and put you first…

Witnessing

You are legally required to have at least two guests at your wedding to witness and sign the Marriage Certificate. If possible, you should know the witnesses, as their evidence can be used to establish the identity of the couple who were married and testify to the circumstances in which the ceremony was performed. Witnesses can be any family member or friend who is at least 18 years old.

Fancy Certificate

Your fancy Marriage Certificate given on the day by the Celebrant is not always accepted as legal documentation to create joint back accounts, etc. You will need to apply for your Marriage Certificate through Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria at your cost.

Names on forms

You are required to use the same name on your forms as shown on your identification
